THE ALCHEMY OF NATURAL DYEING
Ancient natural dye techniques extract the alluring pigments of plants and flowers, emblazoning their tint and their spirit onto luxe organic silk fibers. Plant matter is laid directly onto fabric, then tightly bound to be steamed or immersed in a hot dye bath. The heat permanently transfers alluring imprints and colors onto the fabric. Colorful surprises and attractive abstractions occur in the dye process, making each item one-of-a-kind, painterly and alluring, as nature intends.
Flora Obscura creates beautiful pieces while maintaining sustainable practices from dyeing to production. Dye materials are salvaged from florists, harvested wildly, homegrown and attained from certified organic vendors. Our silk is naturally hypoallergenic and non-toxic. neither the production of silk nor the breakdown of the fiber release toxins into the environment. Our designs feature geometrical-based patterns which create very little fabric waste.
