an intricate process…
The art of botanical contact-printing…
The process is a delicate alchemy: pure white cloth is first immersed in minerals, preparing it to absorb the vibrant hues of plants. Fresh leaves and flowers are then arranged on the fabric, which is bundled and steamed. During this transformation, the essence, imprint, and pigmentation of the flora are transferred into the cloth, resulting in one-of-a-kind botanical contact prints. Each piece is a reflection of nature itself— a perfect blend of harmony and discord.
Behind the label…
Alison Kelly is an artist and designer whose work is a reflection of her deep connection to nature, textiles, and design. Her creative journey began in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she immersed herself in the ancient traditions of weaving and silversmithing. A transformative journey to Oaxaca further shaped her artistic vision, where she discovered the age-old practice of natural dyeing—an experience that forever altered the course of her work. She further refined her skills at the Lorenzo de Medici Scuola de’Arte in Florence, Italy, specializing in Fashion Design. After relocating to New York City, Alison was cast on Project Runway season 3, where the fast-paced world of fashion offered excitement but lacked deeper fulfillment. Realizing that true creativity for her lay in a more sustainable approach to design, she shifted focus to creating botanical prints on natural fibers. Drawing inspiration from the ephemeral beauty of the natural world, Alison’s work blends timeless elegance with modern botanical printing techniques, capturing the delicate grace of flora in each piece.
Through workshops, she offers others a deep dive into the art of natural dyeing, helping participants create their own botanical prints and build a deeper connection with nature.
